Mondays Suck

We all know that traditionally Mondays suck. Monday is the day we have to return to work. We can’t sleep in anymore. Monday means there are five days until the weekend comes. All those factors mean that Monday is usually not my favorite day of the week.

But this Monday was even worse. Going into the weekend, I knew I had to be home for the HVAC man who was coming to do our bi-yearly inspection. I took the 8:00-8:30 time slot. This way I wouldn’t be stuck home all day. Not the best but at least I’d get it over and done with.

But then on Saturday, we started having issues with our cable. My husband was concerned about his viewing of the Super Bowl the next day so he called the cable company. The issue wasn’t resolved remotely. That meant that we needed an in-home appointment. And when did he make it for? Monday, of course! Did he check with me? No. I know Mondays are my day off but that doesn’t mean I have nothing to do. And of course they didn’t actually give him a time slot. They email that at a later date.

Luckily for me, we were slotted for between 10:00 and 12:00. “Alright,” I thought. “At least I have my afternoon to get things done.” Note to self: never utter those words.

So Monday rolls around. I’ve cancelled my barre class since I have to be home. I delayed a lunch with a girlfriend just in case there were issues. Surely there won’t be issues but it’s better to be safe than sorry.

Nine o’clock is approaching and there is no sign of my technician. I called the company and find out that he was called out to an emergency before the office opened. “Sorry no one called you.” was the only thing I got of them.

The appointment goes well. What doesn’t go well is my reaction at the bill. While the service call was part of our service contract and therefore free, the repairs needed are not. Oh, and the work we had estimated a few months earlier? That price has increased. Of course.

Yay, Monday.

And now I wait for the cable people.

Two techs appear at my door around 10:30. I’m so appreciative that they made their window. As soon as I described the issue, one of the men knows exactly what’s wrong. They tried to correct with issue by rebooting the router but it didn’t work.

They get a new one from the truck and run all the necessary tests but even that machine doesn’t want to work. So they decide to contact a tech in the area to get another router.

This is around 11:15 and they return about 15 minutes later. Now where getting somewhere.

At least that’s what I think. That machine doesn’t want to cooperate either. All the tests don’t rectify the situation. They tried repeatedly. So the main tech calls the office. They are on the phone for awhile. Nothing appears to get resolved.

It is now around 1:30.

Suddenly, somehow, it works. Did I pray to the cable gods? No, but I should have. I don’t care how it happened but they were finally out of my house by 2:00.

So, the takeaway from that Monday adventure?

Mondays suck.
