What a wonderful few days it’s been! There were lots of events but it was worth every minute. And those events make it a great time to be a military spouse. As a military spouse, I have the opportunity to participate in many cool things.

It started on Thursday. Hubby and I had to go to an ALS (Airman Leadership School) graduation. These happen every six weeks or so but it’s always great to celebrate the accomplishments of our young Airmen. It gives us a chance to get dressed up and have a night out. I could probably pass on the chicken plate that I seem to get every time but it is worth it.

When that part of the night was over, we had a few hours before we had to be at another location. It is close to Thanksgiving and the Maintenance group uses this time to say “thank you” to the maintainers by feeding them a Turkey Day meal. There are three shifts for them so on Thursday night, we fed the late shift crew. We arrived at 11:00pm and started doling out turkey, ham and all the accompanying sides.

We repeated the whole scenario two more times on Friday. We had a lunch shift as well as a dinner shift. It was incredible to see how many people actually work in the maintenance center. I was put in charge of doling out the ham. Apparently that’s where the commander’s spouse is designated to stand. Who knew that military spouses got to do so much?

Then we had an additional celebratory function on Monday afternoon: it was Chief release party. We had five Airmen who were going to become Chiefs. Only 1% of the enlisted force can reach that rank. So reaching that rank is HUGE. That is why we cheer loudly when it happens. You’ll have to wait to hear about the actual induction ceremony. That is FULL of symbolism.

When we have events like this, it reminds me how good life truly is. Stay tuned for all the goodness that will be soon.
